American Rivers Names America’s Most Endangered Rivers of 2012

America’s Most Endangered Rivers of 2012

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

With Congress considering drastic cuts to national clean water protections, and rivers nationwide facing threats from natural gas drilling, pollution, and new dams, American Rivers today released its annual list of America’s Most Endangered Rivers®.

American Rivers named the Potomac River, known as ‘the nation’s river’ as it flows through the capital, the most endangered in the country. While the Potomac is cleaner than it used to be, the river is still threatened by urban and agricultural pollution– and it could get much worse if Congress rolls back critical clean water safeguards.

As our country commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act this year, the Potomac is emblematic of what’s at stake for rivers nationwide. American Rivers launched a national call to action, giving citizens the opportunity to contact members of Congress and speak up for clean water.

“This year’s Most Endangered Rivers list underscores how important clean water is to our drinking water, health, and economy,” said Bob Irvin, President of American Rivers. “If Congress slashes clean water protections, more Americans will get sick and communities and businesses will suffer. We simply cannot afford to go back to a time when the Potomac and rivers nationwide were too polluted and dangerous to use.”

Before the Clean Water Act was enacted in 1972, the Potomac was a cesspool of sewage and industrial pollution. Thanks to the Clean Water Act, the Potomac and rivers across the country are cleaner and safer for drinking, boating, and fishing. But the Potomac is still suffering – a University of Maryland report card has given the river a “D” grade for water quality for the past two years.

“The Clean Water Act is the reason the Potomac River is no longer called a ‘national disgrace.’ Most of the palpable problems are gone; however, there are many emerging threats that can’t be seen. Residents of the Washington D.C. metro area– including the President and Congress– need to realize they are composed mostly of Potomac river water and they need to protect and enforce the laws that safeguard their health,” said Ed Merrifield, President of Potomac Riverkeeper.

“We need strong federal leadership as we redouble our efforts at the local level to achieve the goal of a healthy, clean Potomac,” said Hedrick Belin, President of the Potomac Conservancy. “We look forward to partnering with American Rivers, Potomac Riverkeeper, and others to continue to make progress cleaning up the Nation’s River. This regional treasure contributes so much to our community’s quality of life, and our neighborhoods deserve healthy, clean streams and creeks.”

“When members of Congress fill a glass of water or drink their morning coffee, that water comes from the Potomac River. It’s time to draw the clear connections between healthy rivers, drinking water, and public health in Washington, DC, and in communities nationwide,” said Irvin.

American Rivers called on Congress to kill any legislation that weakens the Clean Water Act or prevents the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from restoring protections for small streams and wetlands under the Act. American Rivers also called on the Obama Administration to finalize guidance clarifying the scope of the Clean Water Act and issue a rule-making to ensure that all waters get the protections Americans expect and deserve.

Now in its 27th year, the annual America’s Most Endangered Rivers® report is a list of rivers at a crossroads, where key decisions in the coming months will determine the rivers’ fates. Over the years, the report has helped spur many successes including the removal of outdated dams, the protection of rivers with Wild and Scenic designations, and the prevention of harmful development and pollution.

Julie Morgenstern and Levenger Launch New Line of Circa Products for Staying Organized

Julie Morgenstern and Levenger Launch New Line of Circa Products for Staying Organized

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

Organizing and time management expert Julie Morgenstern (http://www.juliemorgenstern.com) has teamed up with the specialty retailer Levenger to produce a new line of products aimed at helping busy professionals avoid timewasters, plan meaningful days—and stay balanced between work life and personal life. The line is available exclusively through Levenger (http://www.levenger.com).

The new line uses Levenger’s award-winning Circa note-taking system. Circa notebooks are known for their flexibility, with pages that can be easily removed and refiled in any Circa notebook. The secret is the notebook’s spine, a row of removable discs that both hold paper together and easily release it.

The centerpiece of the Morgenstern Circa line is a quarterly day-by-day agenda, the Circa Balanced Life Planner. Also included are a notebook designed to capture action steps from meetings, the Circa Next Action Notebook and a five-tiered planner for tracking multiple projects, the Circa Stepped Project Notebook.

Add-ons include a set of note cards for logging recurring tasks , the Circa Do Every Pad, and another set for allocating times each day for fulfilling both professional and personal roles, the Circa Time Map Pad. Note cards come Circa-punched for inserting wherever needed in a Circa notebook.

The Balanced Life Planner and other products “help you make good decisions about where to spend your time,” says Morgenstern.

Morgenstern, whom USA Today has described as the “queen of putting people’s lives in order,” is a 20-year veteran of organizational and productivity programs. She has provided training to Fortune 500 companies as well as individuals worldwide and is an often-tapped expert, sharing her advice on Today, Good Morning America, the former Oprah Winfrey Show, and NPR. She is frequently quoted on the pages of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and O.

“I chose to partner with Levenger because of our shared commitment to quality and innovation,” says Morgenstern. “The interchangeable parts of the Circa series support my philosophy that each system should be custom fit to the individual. And the re-arrangeable page format is a perfect match for the dynamics of managing time. When you have to change your plans, it helps if your system can accommodate that need for flexibility.”

Features in the planner such as the 4D column prompt you to delete, delay, diminish or delegate the unnecessary, while a column for time estimating helps you plan what you can realistically accomplish in a day.

Morgenstern’s products become part of the Circa Thought Leader series at Levenger, partnerships that Levenger is undertaking to turn philosophies such as Morgenstern’s Balanced Life methodology into useful products.

Morgenstern’s Balanced Life, which recognizes the value of assigning time to both the personal and the professional, is in sync with the Slow Tech philosophy that Levenger practices. The company brings another level of productivity to high-tech gear by designing supporting products that use the heritage technologies of wood, leather and most especially, paper—thus balancing high tech and low.

“As much as we may work in the cloud, many of us still like to be grounded with something reassuringly physical, like a well-designed planner,” says Steve Leveen, the CEO and co-founder of Levenger. “Many experts will tell you that the physical act of writing something helps us remember. And writing with high quality, intelligently designed gear means you’re more likely to enjoy it and hence perform better overall.”

Morgenstern’s products feature the high-quality paper that Levenger is known for. They also include a number of helpful tips for finding time for the important things in one’s day and one’s life. Morgenstern, whose company is based in Manhattan, is also a New York Times bestselling author. Levenger is offering signed copies of her book, Time Management from the Inside Out.

High-quality note-taking products are among the major offerings of Levenger, which also sells fine writing instruments as well as various wood and leather holders for personal electronics. Founded in 1987, Levenger’s mission is to outfit customers with high-quality products designed for reading, thinking and creative expression. The company is headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida.

How do i get into the custom PC business?

Question by : How do i get into the custom PC business?
I am 18 and have a solid foundation on computers. If the art career doesn’t work in my favor. i would like to work with computers. most people i talk to, don’t know about graphic cards, iCores, PSUs ect.. I want to learn more and get into that business. i just don’t know about getting into it. A similar analogy would be if someone learned about being an auto mechanic from their family and fixed cars.
I don’t know really. My SAT scores where not groundbreaking. My tuition for art school is pretty steep. Not everyone I personally know is certified and they make money.

Best answer:

Answer by ?
the only way you’ll ever make a career of it is to go to school for it as most states require you to have a degree or certificate of learning in a specialized field such as this, you could alos attend a trade school for it

Secure64 Addresses All Major Cybersecurity Threats Identified by FCC

Secure64 Addresses All Major Cybersecurity Threats Identified by FCC

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a call to action to ISPs and telecommunications companies to combat three major cybersecurity threats that have the potential to cause widespread disruption to communications and economic activity: Domain Name Server (DNS) Fraud, Botnet Attacks, and IP Route Hijacking. In response to this call to action, eight major service providers have agreed to adopt a set of recommended security initiatives outlined by an FCC advisory committee. Implementation of these recommended security initiatives is a significant step forward in securing the Internet but requires cost-effective software and hardware from technology suppliers. Secure64 Software Corporation’s suite of secure DNS products and technologies address each of the threats identified by the FCC and can be indispensible tools for organizations implementing the recommendations.

“Our products allow providers to address the major threats to online security and reduce the risk of threats like denial of service attacks at low cost, with no disruption to customers, and without compromising privacy,” said Steve Goodbarn, president of Secure64. “From the beginning, Secure64 has focused on providing commercial solutions that simplify DNS security. Our products—Secure64 DNS Signer (automated DNSSEC), DNS Cache, DNS Authority—and our recent co-authored proposal for preventing IP route hijacking (ROVER) provide critical capabilities that ISPs and telecommunications companies need to implement the FCC’s recommendations.”

Threat 1: Domain Name Server (DNS) Fraud

The FCC recommends that providers immediately implement Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) security-aware resolvers to prevent DNS fraud, at a minimum, and also recommends gradually enabling DNSSEC validation on resolvers over time. Secure64 DNS Cache is a security-aware caching resolver able to validate DNSSEC responses with higher levels of performance than other resolvers. Secure64 DNS Cache allows providers to:

Increase performance and reduce costs by consolidating caching infrastructure
Future-proof networks by providing the headroom to add new services without requiring new capital expenditures
Protect DNS service and customers from downtime due to DDoS attacks against the DNS infrastructure

The FCC also recommends that key industry segments such as banking, credit cards and healthcare sign their domains with DNSSEC. Traditional methods of implementing DNSSEC are complex, painstaking and fraught with the potential for error, however Secure64 offers a solution that simplifies DNSSEC and ensures successful implementation. Secure64 DNS Signer is a secure DNSSEC software appliance that fully automates DNSSEC key generation, key rollover, zone signing and re-signing processes. Secure64 DNS Signer works with a company’s existing DNS infrastructure and automates all of the activities required to deploy DNSSEC, allowing an organization to:

Implement DNSSEC in days, not months
    Reduce deployment and maintenance costs
Retain the investment in existing DNS infrastructure
Eliminate errors that can cause a domain to become unreachable

Threat 2: Botnet Attacks

One thing that many botnets and botnet attacks have in common is their use of DNS infrastructure. Almost all nefarious activity performed by an infected PC begins with a DNS query to servers maintained by ISPs and telecommunications companies. Botnet software that infects computers must use the DNS to find its command and control center, and malware is often distributed via email links that use the DNS to resolve the malicious domain name. Secure64 offers solutions that help ISPs and telecommunications companies secure their DNS infrastructure against mis-use by and attacks from botnets.

Secure64 DNS Authority and DNS Cache are authoritative and caching DNS software appliances that detect and mitigate high volume DDoS attacks without the need to overprovision servers. Third party tests have shown that these products can withstand DDoS attacks up to the saturation point of a gigabit Ethernet line with no loss of DNS availability. Secure64 DNS products allow companies to:

Ensure the availability of the DNS even while under high volume DDoS attacks
Eliminate the need to overprovision the DNS infrastructure
Eliminate the need for dedicated network security equipment to protect the DNS

In addition, Secure64 DNS Cache combats botnets by allowing service providers to load one or more blacklists into the server so that queries for known botnet command and control centers can be detected, reported and blocked.

Secure64 also provides carriers with easy to use “genetic diversity” in their DNS by running on a different architecture than all other DNS servers. Over 80 percent of the world’s DNS servers rely on the same open source DNS, creating the potential for a global Internet meltdown in the event of a sophisticated attack or virus. Secure64 DNS Cache was recently named Best New Application of 2011 at the annual Mission-Critical Innovations Awards in Vienna Austria.

Threat 3: IP Route Hijacking

Secure64 is a co-author of a proposed novel solution to the route hijacking problem that was recently presented to the IETF. Route hijacking is the malicious or accidental re-directing of data traffic using the lack of security in routers, which are responsible for moving packets of data from point A to point B on the Internet. Malicious route hijacking can remove companies or even entire countries from the Internet, bringing business or an overall economy to a halt. A number of high-profile incidents of route hijacking have increased concern about this threat.

Secure64’s solution to the route hijacking threat is as elegantly simple as it is effective: The solution proposed to the IETF leverages current DNS infrastructure and records in conjunction with the use of DNSSEC to publish and verify ASN route origins. This methodology verifies routes as trustworthy, removing the threat of route origin hijacking in the process, and could be implemented immediately.

For more information about Secure64’s solutions for companies seeking to comply with the cybersecurity recommendations of the FCC, visit http://www.secure64.com/solutions.

Rock Baby Clothes and Van Halen Lullaby Music CD Available on Kiditude

Rock Lullaby CD’s at Kiditude.com

Aberdeen, NJ (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

David Lee Roth’s sister, Lisa Roth, VP and executive producer of Rockabye Baby released the newest lullaby CD in the series, Rockabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Van Halen on November 15, 2011. This lullaby CD is available for purchase on Kiditude.com. Lisa Roth told Forbes “It’s more for the parent than the child but it calms the child at the same time.”

Roth himself added a quote to the liner notes of the CD,”David Lee Roth here, the smile that launched a thousand hips, once they got launched, welp, time for some lullabies! Rockabye Baby’s Van Halen lullabies are here, and it’s all of your favorite tunes, but dialed down for just right after happy hour.”

Along with lullaby CD’s from the Rockabye Baby catalog, Kiditude carries cool baby clothes. “Most customers will couple a lullaby music CD with a cool baby onesie for a complete gift,” says Laura Brown, owner Kiditude. The novelty baby clothes in the collection include guitar, skull, skater, tattoo designs and more. This is clothing you can’t find in a department store. It stands out from typical baby and toddler wardrobe pieces. It’s highly sought after by parents, grandparents and gift givers who want to dress the baby or toddler in clothing that is different and makes a statement.

Because novelty baby clothing is such a trend, Kiditude has expanded its selection of rock baby clothes. Baby onesies and toddler t-shirts featuring bands like AC/DC, Bon Jovi, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, KISS, Metallica, Michael Jackson and Pantera are popular sellers.

Although the apparel is very reasonably priced with most pieces under $ 20, Kiditude has put together novelty baby gift sets at a discounted price. Most gift sets include a popular rock band onesie, cool baby hat, expression pacifier and rock lullaby music CD. Other gift sets feature novelty baby accessories like cool crib shoes and bibs. Still others group a set of lullaby music CD’s at a sale price.

“Most of our customers are people who have been invited to a baby shower and are looking for a baby shower gift”, said Brown. “On a daily basis we answer email and phone correspondences from thoughtful gift givers searching for the perfect baby shower present for their friends, family and co-workers.”

Kiditude assists gift buyers with one-on-one shopping assistance via phone or email, answering baby shower etiquette questions on the Kiditude Blog, offering theme gift sets that include a group of items that look good together in a variety of sizes and offers gift wrap services and gift message cards. For those gift givers who still aren’t sure what to buy, Kiditude has gift certificates in any denomination starting at $ 25. “We are in the business of making people happy. We want the parents to feel good about the clothing they put on their baby and the gift giver to feel like a rockstar when they see their special friend or relative open their gift,” said Brown.

To make it easier for International purchasers, Kiditude added a currency converter. To give customers more power to choose how much they want to spend, Kiditude completely revamped its shipping options to include lower cost shipping options. In preparation for the holiday rush and last minute shopping, Kiditude added express shipping options. As always, orders over $ 75 ship free within the US.

Kiditude encourages customers to Like Kiditude on Facebook and Follow Us on Twitter. Facebook and Twitter are where customers can receive valuable coupon codes, real customer product reviews and new product announcements.

Company Information: Kiditude Apparel provider of cool baby clothes had offices in New Jersey. Kiditude specializes in a collection of cool rock onesies and t-shirts for babies and toddlers, punk rock baby clothes and unique baby shower gifts for cool parents of kids with attitude.

NATDRC Conference to Address Ways to Eliminate Fraudulent Lead Aggregators from the Tax Debt Resolution Industry

NATDRC Conference to Address Ways to Eliminate Fraudulent Lead Aggregators from the Tax Debt Resolution Industry

Tax Resolution Services, Co.® (TRS)

Encino, CA (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

On the slate of issues to be discussed at the first official meeting of the National Association of Tax Debt Resolution Companies (NATDRC) in Washington D.C., May 20-21, is the regulation of companies utilizing deceptive advertising claims and misleading trade practices that solicit unsuspecting consumers (by advertising on the internet, radio, and TV) who believe that they are hiring an attorney, CPA, or Enrolled Agent to represent them before the IRS/State. Nothing can be further from the truth.

A lead aggregator is defined as a company that aggregates, or brings together, a variety of tax debt problem resolution firms looking to “buy” leads and affiliates looking to produce leads. The aggregator provides marketing and technology resources that the individual participants do not have the resources to afford individually, and brings these different parties together in a way that they could not without an intermediary. The problem with this model is that it promotes deceptive advertising and business practices.

Due to the bursting of this country’s financial “bubble,” in 2008, thousands of so-called credit card debt settlement companies sprung up virtually overnight, luring consumers in and promising to settle their (credit card) debts for “pennies on the dollar.” Many of these so-called companies (which were really lead aggregators/generators) simply sold consumers’ private, confidential, personal information to their affiliates, behind the consumers’ backs, to others who would attempt a settlement/resolution. Many of these affiliates, and the aggregators, simply took the money and ran. These unscrupulous operators lured clients in via large national advertising campaigns on the internet, radio and TV. These ads were deceptive and, at best, misleading.

Due to the hundreds of thousands of consumer complaints, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) amended the Telemarketing Sales Rule in August 2010, essentially making it illegal for these firms to accept up-front payments from consumers and prohibiting them from collecting a “fee” until a final, successful completion was reached with the consumers’ credit card companies. This was a much needed “death knell” that put over 80 percent of these unscrupulous companies out of business.

These companies, not to be undone by the FTC, thought it would be an easy “cross-over” into the tax debt relief industry as the targeted end consumer essentially has the same profile and demographic as the credit card debtor. Additionally, instead of doing their own marketing and controlling critical intake criteria, many unscrupulous tax debt relief firms relied on others to get them leads/prospects. Since these lead aggregators are unregulated (unlike CPAs, attorneys, or Enrolled Agents), they often can get away with making outrageous claims in order to solicit consumers who in reality do not qualify for tax relief in the first place.

Most tax debt lead aggregators’ marketing and advertising is deceptive and misleading. Generally, they don’t tell consumers that they will be “referred” or “matched” to one of their affiliate companies. These aggregators do not do the actual case work; the cases are “farmed out.” Generally, once you give them your personal information your relationship with them ends.

In the unsecured debt (credit card, medical, etc.) settlement industry anyone can proclaim expertise as long as they have a phone and a persuasive voice. There are no experience, education, licensure or registration requirements. This “work” can be done without having graduated high school, and these firms are now trolling for unsuspecting consumers in the tax problem resolution industry. Scary.

To be lawful and credible, tax problem resolution firms must employ the only three types of individuals in the world who are allowed to represent clients before the IRS. You either must be a CPA, an attorney, or an Enrolled Agent in good standing with your respective licensing/governing body.

Hundreds of these former disreputable firms are now holding themselves out as “experts” in the tax debt resolution arena. They don’t do the work, instead farming it out, for a handsome fee, to others who will. This and the much publicized demise of the other large nationally marketed firms such as Roni Lynn Deutch (“the Tax Lady”), J.K. Harris, and TaxMasters have given the credible tax problem resolution firms a huge black eye.

That’s why the National Association of Tax Debt Resolution Companies (NATDRC) is aggressively promoting federal and state legislation to make it illegal for tax debt resolution firms to affiliate and join up with a lead aggregator. It would also prohibit lead aggregators themselves to solicit/market to both tax problem resolution practitioners and the end-consumer.

Anyone or any firm offering services concerning tax problem resolution must be the responsible and qualified person to do so. This includes being able to place their own name(s) on IRS Form 2848, Power of Attorney. Only a CPA, attorney, or Enrolled Agent can sign this and be authorized as the taxpayer’s representative.
